Rachel Salls knew from a young age that hairstyling would be her dream career. By 4th or 5th grade, she recognized that working with hair was something she loved and could see herself doing long-term. Pursuing a career in the beauty industry not only fulfilled her passion but also offered her the flexibility she desired to balance work with family life.
Rachel began her hairstyling journey in 2019 after transitioning from a career in mental health. When the pandemic hit, most of her cosmetology education moved to Zoom, adding a unique challenge to her learning experience. After becoming licensed, Rachel’s career took a big step forward when a friend connected her with Kenzie, a stylist looking for an assistant.
Rachel spent 18 months learning under Kenzie’s mentorship, which greatly enriched her skills. Since then, she has continued her education with multiple cutting classes and has enrolled in two upcoming weekend blonding courses out of state. Rachel believes in lifelong learning and is dedicated to expanding her knowledge in hairstyling.
One of Rachel’s most valuable lessons has been the importance of setting clear expectations with clients. Whether in the salon or applying FX prosthetics, she’s learned to clarify the service details by repeating back what was discussed, ensuring that both she and her clients are on the same page before starting.
Rachel’s expertise in blonding allows her to showcase her love for color theory. She carefully considers tones and levels to craft a blonde shade that complements each client’s complexion and style. Her skillful approach ensures that every blonding service results in a polished, harmonious look that brings out the client’s best features.
Rachel’s dimensional color work adds depth and vibrancy, giving clients a multi-tonal look that enhances natural beauty. She enjoys the versatility of this specialty, as it allows her to either neutralize or enhance specific colors for a unique, customized style. Rachel’s creative approach ensures each color has a personal touch that resonates with her clients’ individuality.
Rachel sees women’s haircuts as a precise art rooted in geometry. She carefully considers the impact of each elevation, knowing how it will shape the final style and flatter her clients’ faces. Her deep understanding of haircutting structure allows her to achieve styles that are both balanced and aesthetically pleasing.
Outside of the salon, Rachel enjoys a variety of hobbies. She’s an avid reader who loves binge-reading new books, and she finds joy in baking and portrait photography. Rachel’s love for adventure shines through in her hobbies like camping and trips to Disney. She also has a passion for hockey, making time for the sport whenever she can.
